Customizing Boot Menu in Windows XP


Editing the boot.ini file in Windows XP

1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.

-or-

Click Start, click Run, type sysdm.cpl, and then click OK.

2. On the Advanced tab, click Settings under Startup and Recovery.

3. Under System Startup, clickEdit.

4. Change the OS name

5. Save file

6. Reboot

Windows XP Folder Security in NTFS File System


Protecting your folder from the limited users of your system

1. Open My computer and select your personal folder



2. Go to tools menu and click on folder options

3. Click on view tab and uncheck the “use simple file sharing ” check box in the advanced file settings


4. Select the folder and click the right mouse button. Click on properties ,open security tab click on add button


5. Click on the advanced button


6. Find now

7. Select the limited user , Click OK

8. Select the user and deny the appropriate permission . Deny full control will make the folder fully protected from the user.

9. Apply OK, Log off and Try to access the folder from the other login.


Windows XP Shared folders in Network

To restrict users from accessing your shared folders , follow the following steps

1. Open My computer select Shared documents , Click the right mouse button








2. Select sharing and security

3. Click on permissions button

4. Click on Add

5. In select users or groups , click on advanced button

6. Find Now

7. Select Authenticated users, ok

8. Select the appropriate permissions

9. Apply, OK . Now try to open this folder from network
